Halloween, Pumpkins, Art and Fog Effects
Who knew that the Halloween themed transformation of the Maritime Aquarium outdoor spaces would be so perfect. Of course, when it’s dark out, there’s not much reason to stand out on the river walkway unless it was magically filled with glowing jack-o-lanterns. Which is the setting for the thousands of pumpkins that are glowing nightly from tonight till November 2nd.
With the demise of the “fright” house, the scarcity of the corn maze and the need to get inspired in pumpkin carving, a field trip to the Maritime Aquarium is just the ticket. Members get $2 off the timed admission tickets, which are sold by the Maritime Aquarium, online, and of course at the Aquarium itself. Sunday through Thursday night tickets are $12 and Friday and Saturday nigh tickets are $14.
There are literally pumpkins every where. Hanging in trees no less. And considering the sheer number, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the carved pumpkins that fill the spaces between the themed sets, are carved in about 3 minutes. The themed carved and painted pumpkins take much, much longer to produce.
Last night, during a preview show, artists were still busy carving the final touches on what looked like a tribute to Jules Verne and 20,000 leagues under the sea. And what would a maritime themed event be without Captain Jack Sparrow, Pirates, and Sponge Bob? Throw a little fog machine and some sea shanties and you get the spirit.
Highlights of the exhibit, besides the intricate art of carving really detailed scenes on the pumpkins, include a trip through a prehistoric dino ravaged pumpkin patch. For the political junkies amongst you, Obama, McCain, Biden and Tina Fey make an appearance. Next to the yellow submarine tribute. And though not planned, the nice effect of trains making their way across the water adds to the ambiance in a cool way.
For more information check our the Maritime Aquarium’s website. The show runs from October 23rd through November 2– 6:00 to 9:30 PM, rain or shine.
