Decision Obama

McCain did what he set out to do. Obama did what he set out to do.

Obama’s message might be a bit out in front of the times, but not too far. And people are looking for what’s next, not what’s past.

McCain hit his message, but I think it wasn’t enough. Definitely not a game changer.

Look for the polls to continue to show deterioration for McCain and the Obama campaign to push into swing and possibly even leaning McCain states between now and the next debate.

I think McCain was a clear winner here. He answered the questions and answered them with precision. Obama obviously skirted many questions and added his own twist to what was asked. He avoided many accusations as if they weren’t presented. So now, have at it! cut me to pieces and call me a scumbag, but the liberal media will trash McCain and push Obama to forefront. The format sucked and Tom Brokaw kept interjecting his own views. As I am listening to the media give their views that they didn’t hear anything new from McCain I get disgusted because I am just not seeing anything new from Obama either. In all honesty, they both were pretty bland as far as the present crisis goes. Neither of them showed any umf or anger at the other and many times agreed with the other. It was kind of weird.

  3. Anonymous says:

I won’t call you a scumbag – you took the words right out of my mouth! I was totally amazed to hear Obama droning on and on with the same stuff he’s been droning on and on about for the past 6 months! Nothing new from him at all.

McCain is indeed the clear winner here, just as he will be in November.

Brit Hume looks dejected, and Bill Kristol is what passes with him for flabbergasted that McCain, in Charles Krauthammer’s terms, tossed a large explosive device into the middle of the debate.

If the Fox News stalwarts are this deflated, I gotta think that the public at large is heading for the exits. We’ll know for sure just in time for Sunday’s talking heads.

  5. Anonymous says:

what was the explosive device? not getting you on this one.

#2 – You took the words right out of my mouth, too. McCain is toast, nobody cares about his trash talk when everyone is worried about putting food on the table. He’s four more years of the same shit, different day.

  7. Anonymous says:

Wooden, lifeless, peevish = words to describe John McCain tonight. He didn’t fail but he also didn’t do enough to make a change in the direction his campaign is taking. If he continues to have Sarah Palin act as a demagogue, I fear that violence will soon break out. It nearly happened today. I hope she is a better person than that.

#6-why not try understanding that washington is run by democrats for how many years??? oops guess its the dems that got us into this mess. The dems have the majority and therefore they are the ones who have squandered away the american dream with their special interest groups and the little perks like Dodd and Obama have recieved(Obama 2nd on the list of those who have benefitted from the mismanagement and underhanded deals). Whats amazing though is that the American people are falling for the crap the dems are spewing in huge piles about the republicans being the cause of everything from global warming to Mac and Mae. Just another bunch of horse doo doo that the liberal media is more than willing to spew along with them. What ever the outcome of the election somebody has alot of shit to shovel to build up the failing economy.

ACORN Office Raided in Voter-Fraud Probe

Vote, Donor Fraud Haunts Obama Campaign

  10. Anonymous says:

ACORN Raid Reflects GOP Anger at Voter Registration Drive
By Daphne Eviatar 10/8/08 6:15 AM

Yesterday’s raid on Nevada offices of ACORN reflects the increasingly aggressive Republican attempts to derail voter registration efforts among poor and minority voters.

As The Washington Post reported, the Nevada chapter of the Assn. of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, had planned a potluck dinner at its Las Vegas office Tuesday night to celebrate the 80,000 newly registered voters its staff had signed up in Clark County.

Before that dinner could start, however, Nevada officials raided the ACORN office, removing 20 boxes of documents and eight computer hard drives. The state officials claimed that workers for the community-organizing group, who are paid by the hour, had submitted almost 300 voter registration cards that included names and addresses that don’t exist in Nevada, or are duplicates of previous registrations.

A former ACORN employee said she started making up names to fill out the registration forms to avoid having to work in the heat outside. Workers are expected to sign up 20 new voters per shift.

As I noted in my post yesterday, Republicans have been aggressively attacking ACORN for alleged voter fraud, and using any false or erroneous registrations submitted by the group to claim there’s a problem of widespread voter fraud that’s tainting the elections.

But not only are the numbers of illegitimate registrations found tiny in comparison to the 1.3 million valid new registrations the group has signed up, but neither the Nevada GOP, nor anyone else, has presented any evidence that these duplicate or false registrations have any impact whatsoever on the validity of the vote.

After all, unless poll workers are sleeping on the job, no one can show up and vote twice. And there’s no evidence, and likewise no charges, that anyone is showing up at the polls and impersonating the nonexistent voters that have been signed up.

Still, ACORN has been making huge efforts to try to prevent this sort of fraud — cooperating with local authorities by flagging suspicious registrations and having workers individually call new registrants to make sure their registrations are legitimate.

Of course, the group has good reason to cooperate with local authorities to prevent fraud. After all, even assuming the Republicans’ allegations against ACORN workers are true, the only fraud that’s actually been perpetrated was on ACORN itself -– not on the government or the voters of Nevada, or anywhere else.

  11. Anonymous says:

Assuming that voting is done in Nevada as it is done in Connecticut, the voter still has to show a photo identification card before he/she can vote. There is no indication that ACORN is making phoney ID cards. This is just a case of laziness by the individual(s) who are supposed to register new voters. It’s wrong but it won’t affect the vote because of the safeguards at the polls.

WARNING #8: Do not criticize Obama. If you do, you’re a racist!! Repeat after me: Obama is great! He’ll make a great President and save our country. McCain is an old white rich Bush-loving war-mongering bigoted racist pig! He’ll bring our country down if he’s elected!! I’m voting for Obama.

There; I just assuaged my white guilt and immunized myself from being called a racist or an assassin.

  13. Anonymous says:

#13: That’s just dumb. Most of us in the Obama camp don’t assume that anyone supporting McCain is a racist.

Sarah Palin, however, is playing some very dangerous racist games, and she thinks she is being cute and clever. This isn’t the place for that.

  14. Anonymous says:

Palin is McCain’s attack dog, a role traditionally delegated to VP candidates during campaigns to distance the main candidate from getting dirty. Anything she does or encourages is approved by him; ergo, what comes out of her mouth is also coming from his.

Its ok to criticize Palin and be sexist about her and call her every rotten name that the dems and some sort of republicans can think up, its ok to criticize, berate and downright abuse McCain but its not ok to berate, criticize, disagree with or otherwise find fault with the The Great and Powerful Obama! or its called being racist..that my friends is a whole lotta horse manure. Did you ever for one minute think that perhaps people just don’t like him because of his record in the senate of always voting on party lines and never having the hudspa to stand up to his party heads, right or wrong? He said he warned everyone 2 years ago about the economic crisis we were facing and yet he wasn’t savy or influential enough to get his fellow senators to rally round the problem? Obama is the largest individual recipient at about $112,000, federal campaign finance reports show. Could that be the reason? WEAK with no influence! Yup this would be the guy I want for president. He doesn’t even know how to negotiate with his own party or how to step over party lines to accomplish crucial matters that affect all of us. Yup he’s my guy alright! Anything I just said appear to racist? I’m sure someone out there will find it to be.

#17, as you may have become aware from the primaries, racism trumps sexism. The media had license to trash Hillary but Obama was untouchable.

  19. Anonymous says:

#18-I am fearful of what will happen if Obama becomes president and I can tell you, its not because he’s black but because he has no backbone to stand up for the American people. As you have all said before during other campaigns about different candidates they say anything they can to get your vote and when they get into office they give you the old Italian salute and hopefully you’re not bending over at the time. And before you go all huffy about the Italian comment, I am Italian and those of you out there who are will know what the Italian salute is…just hope you don’t have an elbow sticking out yer butt! Politicians can say what they want to get your votes but it is their experience and track record that counts at the end of the day and I’m sorry to say but Obama has neither!

  20. Anonymous says:

Nice! The “look over there” attempts to change the subject from the real issue, “It’s the Economy, Stupid, Part II” continue!

Now it’s all about racism and sexism. We know Palin is fomenting racism down south, McCain’s negative ads are playing on racist fears (if he brought up sexism someone would just throw it back in his face with the time he called his wife a c*nt), so it’s pretty obvious they’re running scared.

The voters aren’t stupid. They can see right through the Swift Boating attempts.

  21. Anonymous says:

Yeah, ok and I believe in santa and fairy dust! I have racists, biggots and sexists but what I hate more is when people abuse those words in order to get something they don’t deserve. Its the same as if you ask your boss for a raise and he says no so you retaliate by filing charges of discrimination, sexual harrasment and God knows what else but and that a big BUT you never took into consideration that yer damn ass didn’t deserve a raise in the first place cause you actually have to do your job in order to get a raise. As for the C*nt comment, perhaps you might want to go to snopes and look it up. The lady they say said it says she never wrote the thing and never said a damn thing remotely close to what you are saying http://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/vacation.asp so get you stories straight. And hopefully you are right when you say the voters aren’t stupid, otherwise Obama will be our next president.

#22: You have your facts wrong. The c_nt comment was made in an entirely different venue. Someone had the link for it here earlier this week, and I don’t have time to look for it right now. He said it in front of reporters.

You have your opinion about Obama. What is your opinion of Sarah Palin? Can you explain her to me?

  23. Anonymous says:

#22 – #23 is correct. You have (unsurprisingly) your facts wrong.

(unsurprisingly) ???? Who are you to determine that my answer is wrong? Apparently you read something into that video that didn’t exist.

Are you both crazy? Unless I looked at a different video at no time did I hear Mr. McCain say “yes I called my wife a C*Nt” In fact, he was a bit flabbergasted and admonished the person asking the question for using the offensive word in front of the audience…again, is that an admission of guilt?

  28. Old Timer says:

He was asked about the incident, where he called his wife a rude name in front of others, and did not deny it. He told the questioner, a minister, that there were people in the audience who did not appreciate that kind of language and had the guy escorted out.
Why didn’t he deny it, loud and clear ?

All the polls show obama ahead of mccain, some say by 11%, most by less, but all agree Obama has the lead.
Some of his attack ads have cost mccain. The voters know when they are being lied to, and they resent it.

No matter which one of these politicians get in, they will do 98% of what they want and not what they promised. The middle class will take it in the rear no matter who gets elected. If Obama is elected and the Dems sweep the house and senate, then the ball is in their court, and they will rise or fall on their operation of the Government. It might be the best thing that ever happened to the Republicans. Let me repeat the middle class will come in last again in any case.

  37. #4 of StupidMeDoh 3 says:

I like how this thread gets started by # 1 of the SMD 3, posting a link to the “REAL” story…

…especially how a majority of the timeline in the link predates Obama’s entry into the US Senate, yet manages to pin some of the blame on him for conditions that began 5, 10 and 20 years before he held a federal position.

While we are at it, can we blame Obama for the ’69 Cubs collapse? He was alive in `69 and who cares if he was in elementary school. A muslim terrorist is a muslim terrorist, and only born again republicans like us, who never, ever make any mistakes or engage in corrupt acts would know.

Of course, the bankers and wallstreeters that milked the system are in no way culpable.

  38. I know this doesn't matter to some But.. says:

Obama Campaign Runs Afoul of Finance Rules

An investigation of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign finance reports has turned up more than 2,000 cases in which individuals have made donations far above the legal limit of $2,300 per election.

On Aug. 31, for example, the Obama campaign filed a report listing a single donation from a Debra Myers in “Rancho Palos Verde, Calif.,” for $28,500 – more than 10 times the amount the law allows per election. Although Debra Myers is identified as a physician, only two individuals with that last name have a listed phone number in Rancho Palos Verdes (the city’s name actually does have an “s” at the end). Neither is a Debra or a “D” Myers, or a physician.

The Obama campaign also identified Woodrow Myers Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind., on Aug. 31 as having given $28,500 to the campaign. Woodrow “Woody” Myers is a former Indiana state health commissioner who spent $2.1 million of his own money in a failed special election to challenge Andre Carson, the grandson of U.S. Rep. Julia Carson, who died in December. The younger Carson won the race this year, with heavy backing from lobbyists, the Democratic Party and related PACs. (Interestingly, Woodrow Myers’ wife is identified as Debra, although Newsmax could not confirm whether this is the same Debra Myers the campaign report lists as being from Palos Verdes.)

  39. Anonymous says:

You may want to consider whether the author of that article, Ken Timmerman, has an agenda to peddle. He’s a journalist, political writer, and conservative Republican activist who in 2000 was a candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senator from Maryland.

Timmerman has been accused of yellow journalism in relation to his work on Iraqi WMDs.

He has also been accused of excessive partisanship in relation to Iran and his work on the Foundation for Democracy in Iran. As the American founder of an organization that claims to represent the interests of Iranian democrats, his opinions have little influence in the Iranian diaspora.

He has been accused of stoking conflict with Iran (a charge which his supporters deny), by misrepresenting the threat of an Iranian nuclear weapons program, as well as denouncing the National Intelligence Estimate which clearly states that Iran had ended a project to design nuclear warheads some years ago, although they increased their efforts on the more important parts of their program for building nuclear weapons. Timmerman denounced the misleading way in which the unclassified summary of the report described the report’s conclusions.

  40. ??? says:

Ok, but does it change the fact that there’s some things untoward with donations? I just googled obama campaign financing under scrutiny after I read #40 and there’s a ton of links to the same type of indiscretions. So who the author of that piece is may or may not be important.

  41. Anonymous says:

I think you’re confusing allegations by the RNC with fact, which I am sure is their agenda. Of all the sites I found mentioning this new attack by the GOP, there was only one mainstream media outlet that saw fit to mention it, and that is in the UK. All the others were clearly biased or being run by conservatives.
