The population of Connecticut isn’t growing, we’re at 3.7 million. We have two area codes, 203 and 860. Those two area codes generate about 20 million possible phone numbers. And now the DPUC says there are plans to add two new area codes, 959 in the 860 area and 475 in the 203 area. Supposedly only new lines will get new area codes, which is all according to the plan implemented 9 years ago to deal with the day that all 203 and 860 numbers get used.

The exact implementation day is somewhat unclear, but the DPUC is predicting that Connecticut will run out of 860 and 203 numbers in about two years.� Since the plan called for an educational outreach 6 months prior, the AP story discussing this seems about on target.
