Usually this riddle is phrased so the real question is what is the third word in “the English Language” ? The answer is “Language”

    Sometimes when I’m hungry
    I get quite angry.
    Perhaps we could agree
    If we all said “three”

Hey, hey! Just a minute here.. Turf presented her original question as:

There are three English words that all end with -gry. Two of the words we know are hungry and angry. What is the third word?

    Three? Hmm…

Enter Nobody. His/her post gives us the following riddle:

    Sometimes when I’m hungry
    I get quite angry.
    Perhaps we could agree
    If we all said “three”

Now, I ask you… is Turf’s question the same as Nobody’s riddle?

Turf, you scalawag… you can’t conclude the challenge post that easy! :)

  • turfgrrl

Watchdog: But three was the answer, because three is the third word! Note, not the third word that ends in -gry. Riddle me this Batman, what keeps coming but never arrives?

  • Watchdog

    Alright, alright. The past.

But.. wait. Going back to your original question:

There are three English words that all end with -gry. Two of the words we know are hungry and angry. What is the third word?

    Three?

As in one, two, three? But we’re speaking ordinally, not numerically. Care to beat this dead horse?

I like a word game that nobody can win!

The riddle was misstated. Turf. There are many versions of this riddle but in this version the word is “What” because the verb “is” grammatically translates to “What” = “the third word”.
