Lawsuits and Prayer Vigils
WTF. I thought the full moon was last week. The Hour reports that:
Residents opposed to a proposed new solid waste disposal contract are going to hold a prayer vigil in front of city hall tonight, as the Common Council is scheduled to vote on the contract, said a local organizer.
“We don’t know what the outcome of the meeting is going to be, yea or nay,” said Rev. Nelly Mann. “We’re just going to pray them up.”
The city is considering a new contract with Stamford-based City Carting & Recycling Inc. The city’s current contract with Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority ends Dec. 31.
And earlier:
The head of South Norwalk Democrats has threatened legal action, if the Common Council approves a municipal trash-hauling contract that includes use of the Meadow Street transfer station.
“If the city does not listen to us, the only one I know they will listen to is a judge,” said Bobby Burgess, Ward B Democrats chairman. “If the Common Council and the mayor pass this, we will file an injunction immediately in federal court and also with the Department of Environmental Protection.”
Burgess said an injunction is ready to be filed in federal court in New Haven “for environmental impact and discrimination against minorities,” if the city votes “to proceed with the expansion of the Meadow Street Transfer Station.”
Clearly rational left the station. But great that the Hour is updating its web site with breaking news.
