we can only hope Mr Bondi still cares about the kids on Woodward and Meadow st.The trucks that are destined for that area and leave that area in the morning should be monitored closely as school will start soon .With or without the transfer station Fred can show us his continued concern for the kids.

Water street should have a speed bump too for the pedestrian crossing by the children's shop. Cars rarely stop for pedestrians, even those w/children in tow. The police see it and drive by. Water Street is a long straight away where lots of people fly down. Quintard should simply regulate parking to one side of the street. The reason so many cars are parked along the curb is in part because there are so many extra illegal residences in the houses. Just take a look at the number of satellite dishes!!! But that's another story too...someday there will be a fire and lots of people will unfortunately die, the City officials who fail to enforce the housing laws should be at least as responsible as that Pool company owner who failed to put the safety valve on the pool.

#8 you are correct and from all the planning and all the developing expect more delays closed and blocked streets and the bridge.Quintard is the only logical route out of village creek and the power plant where its safe to drive. Now this was the first incident since they repaved the street it is no accident that around the speed bumps and there are four never a problem with speed and danger to kids that in itself may suggest another speedbump on the hill.If you know its there you won't be doing 40 now will ya?

Start compiling the head on accidents on the crest of the hill on Quintard where parking is alloweed on both sides and you have another recipe for tragedy.Norwalk needs a wake up call, your public planners and schemers have been cut down to size but it hasn't eliminated them its made them more covert at this point.

So what comes out of the husband the father the firefighter ho was struck and nearly killed yesterday? If it costs money or takes away from the good ole boys club favorite causes its dismissed as just another accident or he should of been more careful.

The story is the DPW ordered both sides to be picked up for rain that never came while they were working. On the heels of a woman getting killed by a company who usaully jumps out of their truck and lets the truck glide driverless past the recycle bucket maybe its time to look at the whole picture and not what sounds logical. We have learned the hard way Hal uses very little logic and our city in other subjects, maybe facts will show that the next couple of months.

We were told of a list of accidents the city employees or contractors either caused or were last week the last two brings it up to what 8 for the month?

The city needs to slow down and so doesn't the depts its not good when you have so many claims against the city.yes we have insurance but we still pay the price don't we?

one councilor suggested traffic calming and what she got for a response was not surprising she was told no engineers were availablle to do anything then the same meeting they took traffic calming money and spentit elsewhere what was it a million dollars? Kummel would know he is the chairman correct?

mayor keeps saying when Norwalk grow ups we could be like West Hartford with their Blue Black square yet they have on the table millions for speed bumps traffic calming and stop and speed signs, they have a plan its online ,can't be like anyone Dick unless you back spending the cash no one is going to give money out anymore I'm afraid its time to look at the whole picture and not just from some third floor office.

I agree with #8; I travel Quintard often and you just have to go slow and be very careful because the visibility is so limited due to the rises.

I hope Hal can give some creative thought to how we can still expand our recycling program. Why can't it happen at Meadow St? That's probably the last thing Hal wants to think about today, but there's got to be a way to see through the recycling program and have it make money.

#6-How about the idiot that was going 40-45 down that street with total disregard to the safety of perhaps a child crossing the street? While the DPW has an excellent staff and they do a great job of what they are told to do, this gentleman was doing what they normally do in wet weather and that is trying the best they can to get the garbage off the streets before it start washing down the road. The worker may have not been working per orders and regulation but the driver of the car definately doesn't belong driving like an idiot in a residential area. While I don't live in the area of the accident, I have been there many times and someone needs to do something about the way people drive there. I have been almost hit by these jerks on several occasions while trying to get out of my car to go to a meeting or to go shopping etc. They have absolutely no clue as to how to maneuver a car through residential areas and therefore should stick to the higways where there is less likely a chance of kids or pedestrians trying to get about their normal routines.

Your right old timer he needs to realize the city hired him the city can fire him.If thats the best we have running a large budget like that it should send a massage we are in trouble.

Now we have a city employee in tough shape in the hospital over what rubbish, the city needs to look at what transpired yesterday the news reporters have.

You think pushing the guys working in weather like what we have had there would of been more planning on how the routes were done safely.

Mr Alvord has a lot of explaining to do.....
In a more perfect world, he would now be looking for another job, because of of how badly he fumbled the garbage contracts. He tossed it to the council with not enough information for anybody to make an informed decision. Then he tried to make it sound like the world would stop spinning if they didn't immediately approve the two ten-year contracts at once, with no idea what they cost or what the effects would be.

Mr Alvorod needs to explain what happened yesterday,A DPW worker is in serious condition at Norwalk Hospital and it was said the trash crew was told to break safety policy and pick up on both sides of the street because it was going to rain.I wonder how this is going to play out? This accident didn't need to happen where was the administration resposibility on this workers injuries?

While she did reluctantly vote to move the original Meadow Street option forward last month in the hopes of sparking full council debate, I think Laurel Lindstrom was more vocal than usual at the last DPW committee special meeting. She did not want to propose anything again until the final public hearing, an apples-to-apples comparison could be done, and all of their questions could be answered completely.
Let's face it - the commmittee AND the council is to blame because they allow the process under which Mr. Alvord can operate like this. I think (and hope) they and every other council committee have learned a valuable lesson from this. If not, then every time there is a scare-tactic item with insufficient data, scret documents, and piss-poor financial data before the council, let it be referred to in the future as "pulling a Meadow Street". Hopefully, uttering that phrase will jog some memories and further consideration.
I bet during the remainder of this year that we all use that term more than once, but let's hope not. Please try to keep the committee work at the committees, and make sure they do all the work necessary to best serve the people. If they cannot commit the time or the effort to do that, then they should not have run in the first place, and should consider not running again.
