This sounds like a good experience. I hope others will participate, I will be out of town but would have liked to attend. good luck to you and I hope others see this and attend.

Madeleine Eckert’s talks are not to be missed!
She is smart, entertaining, and always leaves her audience begging for more.

This will be an amazing thing to do on Memorial Day. See the parade and get patriotic, then see Madeleine and get smart, then go have a beer and a hot dog and get buzzed. Perfect!

I want to first thank Scott for posting the release on the open thread, and then Turfie for giving the event its own thread. I may be a tad prejudiced here, but I have (obviously) seen the slide show lecture and it is absolutely wonderful. We start by presenting a loop of vintage Memorial Day cards as the audience enters, followed by an evolution of how it became a national holiday. Madeleine will then talk about Norwalk’s involvement, with two posts of the G.A.R., monuments and events. Finally Madeleine will tell a few fascinating stories concerning Norwalkers during the Civil War, and give a brief history of the 29th Regiment of Colored troops, among whose numbers many African-American Norwalkers enlisted and participated in the war between the states. I hope you will be able to join us for this fascinating program.
