East Norwalk Train Station Has New Bike Rack

Another bike rack has been installed at a train station, this time at the Westbound East Norwalk platform parking lot. As with most simple things involving public/governmental property it took the efforts of a dedicated biker, Steve Rappaport, the Norwalk Parking Authority, the CT DOT, DPW, Mayor Moccia, State Senator Bob Duff and State Rep Chris Perone. I hear a seal from the Maritime Aquarium may have been involved, but it may only be a rumor.

Naturally there was a press conference for the unveiling. Guess who is who in the photo below. img_1130_2.jpgThere was even a press release, which offers us this quote from Bob Duff: “This project is another testament to what we in the city of Norwalk can accomplish when we set out minds to it and work together. Not only does this encourage individual personal fitness, it’s a way to start reducing congestion on our reaodways and alleviate parking problems at our train stations.”

But wait there’s more, May is National Bike Month which means that its time to dust off the cobwebs, pump up the tires and wheel that bike out of the garage and onto the streets. It will make you forget about those $4 plus gallons of gas. It might also make you start looking at Norwalk from a whole new angle, literally.

I didn’t have a chance to get pictures of the bike racks at the SoNo train station, but I was told that they are there. The Rowayton train station may be next.

    South Norwalk?

The important question is does anybody actually leave a bike at South Norwalk? Is it there when they return???

Hey Mayor, where’s members of your own party when these things happen? Why is it that the mayor is always with the Dems in these pictures? Does he even tell his own party? Maybe he’ll be running on the democratic ticket next time around!

#3-hate to tell you but not just one group asking these questions. Every time you see a picture in the paper you never see the GOP alongside the mayor. Seems like he distances himself from them at all possible times. Kind of like its just the dems who are doing all the wonderful things in Norwalk. Just wondering where the Rep’s fit in all of this.

Wow #3 your in line to run against Morris.

The post simple shows disgust for the mayor. He would probably run down by a cab if it was at the Sono Station.

You would think to encourage fitness the Mayor would of had it a few spaces over and let handicap drivers enjoy anther spot near the platform stairs .Perfect planning prevents piss poor performances.I hope the city is planning better with 95/7.

I wonder if the the four guys are smiling cause they took a handicap spot and someone told them right before the picture was taken.

No not really they are all nice guys and thought in planning maybe isn’t there thing.

Maybe some more pictures would show otherwise so far it looks like it may be code voilation.

A quick update on the handicap parking spots at the East Norwlalk station. There are two spots next to the bike rack at the end near the ramp. But the rack does compromise and eliminated what looked like a third spot for handicap parking in a all ready congested area of the parking lot.Looking at it maybe another five minutes of planning would of been warranted.

One can only hope this doesn’t turn out to be another one of the mayors rule by dictator programs. The other side being the east bound side has about 15 bikes all chained to fences, bushes and signs. You would think for the East bound side we will have another rack or will that come at election time and all the parties agree on one for the East side ridership.I’m starting to think east side traffic is really getting dumped on here.We can olny wonder what they are planning in Rowyaton when they cut the ribbon and red tape there.

We are talking what another rack how much was invested into this last ordeal by our elected officials? Why not the other side?

I personally would feel safer on the other side where at least you can be seen at night the new bike rack is located near the tree line down in the back corner of a deserted area when the train comes in at night away from traffic, resturants and the Mobile station not next to the Shell station that just got robbed at last thursday night.

simply wanted to clarify what it all looks like so I went over just now and observed, deducted and responded in kind.Pictures at 11

Why blame the mayor only? Looks like our dems in Hartford prefer to get money for bike racks and do nothing about ECS funding. What does Bob Duff really do other then go around town pretending he cares about Norwalk? All talk no action Bob.

    You talking about Kodak Moccia?
