trust the firemen out on the first call saw the second accident happen I wonder what their thoughts are , they were there and it might help our cause if someone else in the state reads them as well.Might help Bob.

I wrote above posting #2 the 20th

what an idea I had and Noelle Frampton wrote about it in today's fridays Hour guess she also has insight on what some of us wants to read , where our manpower was and for how long on the highway the other morning. That in itself helps sell an idea we may need some more help on the front line, from 3:30 am to almost 6:30 am we had some of our equipment most of our men out on the highway,,thats giving us some idea of whats going on with our dept and makes it a fact when it comes time for grants and who they give them out to,, not who has a better grant writer its who needs it this just gives us some facts to work with, she did like everyone else miss the truck under the bridge story in Darien also caused by the accidents but we will give her a break she did try and produce a homerun we will give her a triple for this one, this also helps with the truck station argument..

This is another reason we need more news on whats going on so when its time to give the fire or police some more help or money we are not hearing about old administrations making contract deals and buy outs and keep maintaining the force we need for a city that now is climbing over the 100,000 mark,,we are now using in some cases for emergency planning 120,000 people in the city,,we keep talking lower taxes the city keeps building and planning on structures that will need city services for , fire and police are the two important services, along with our EMT and Norwalk Hospital runs and an increase of emergency room services.

back to my cave , wouldn't want to miss anything

well I see you have found a reason to support the mayor at election time, shame Sen Dodd seems to be a more of a hero these days with the fire dept.

So the mayor did what? well Dodd only helped write the fire and safe act where the money is coming from but you clearly knew that before you came out to teach us all ,,I think Dodd is a democrat? whats that mean nothing as in your opening volley nice try I'm like old Ironsides and she by the way is still in the Navy in service, still ready for war.

Ok lets go right to the grants I'm running out of ink,,

If the fire dept gets the next grant they and not the city applied for,, its for manpower to man a rescue maybe I wrong on this maybe not ..

So we get the grant to hire new men thats it right? No I think how that works we have to fund the positions after the grants run out or am i wrong do the new guys work for nothing?

Ok so we have new radios and equipment coming who paid for it the grants correct? who pays for it after the grants run out we the city correct and what is that type of bill to the city this size with a grant that size 100 or 200 thousand dollars a year to upkeep or more my magical tour says more. Who pays for it I think we all do , its an election issue? what will they support if elected type deal right?

So we have a new modern facility for the firefighters who backed the most powerful man in Norwalk to become mayor so one lonely man Mr Briggs stopped it in its tracks ate his spinach that week.Good for you walter.

I guess we read a lot about the mayor saying the fire depts contract was fair and as it was got too much or was it the other way around I didn't see any quotes did you? Stand in front of them when he wants a picture but when they need him for support he was where,,I'm sure he will be helping them with their fund raising this weekend I'll be sure to give more if he is here, what are you on mushrooms? Was he involved at all ,,better yet have you seen him at all? I know he doesn't shop at the farmers market on water street or does he?

Ok so lets go back to grants and who is doing what..schools and small volunteer fire depts with guy who spell like me are getting large grants the first time out,,,, so the results over years crap is for someone else not this crowd they don't need me to read the grant lists or defend the process they deduct on their own..

New pumper when is it due , who is making it when is delivery we all know in fire service it probably won't have a reel with a booster something that was well liked years ago,,but what do i know i am not supporting the mayor am I..I do respect firefighters and try to support them when I can,,vote democrat vote Dodd.

Ok so you have said over the weeks I have what lied to the blog members? Told them things that wern't I'm concerned about this I will retire put up my keyboard take up knitting,,only a Deadhead can rant like this..

Going back to other cities one medical school just got 1 million dollars for research It would of been nice to see the Norwalk hospital in one of the standings as well.

The trees i know my neighbor got two one died it came with a disease they did a tree autopsy found a couple more with the same thing not the mayors fault I'd love to blame him knowing that would piss somebody off.

I could of gone on one website the ones who give the grants out but http://www.firehouse.com seems to be the most accurate and lets not forget the facts may not be what you want to read but I assume my translation is not wanted at all,its just pure fantasy

but please understand one of the ones who you need to lobby is Sen Dodd the creator of most of the grant programs it would be stupid of me to think he would ignore a call from a republican mayor from Norwalk and if that was case we should elect a democrat for this task..

how was that uncle walter?

next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The firefighters will be kicking off fire prevention week support them let them know we are there for them .

Mr Greenpeace, when you go on your magical mystery tours that is one thing but when you act like others on this blog and give out misinformation as you have over the past several weeks about fire department funding and grants that is somthing else. First you have stated that the fire department is not geting support from this Mayor. It was this Mayor who pushed to have new a modern fire facility and it was the Democratic council and Mr Briggs on the planning who scuttled the idea. In addtion if you would read budgets and newspapers instead of web sites, you might have known that authorization was given in May for the Fire department to buy a new pumper, the Mayor supported that in the 2006-7 budget and in the 2007-08 budget supported another $420,000 for additonal equipment. As far as grants go, the city has received grants for the deaprtment both from general grant money and Homeland secuirty. Please remember the other cities have had full time deapartments going for years and the grants are the result of that work over the years. Norwalk has one person for a little over a year, who has appled for miilons in grants and hopefully we will receive those funds in the future. but we are in the novice stage. You nay not be aware of the grants the city has received aside from homeland security, for interoperability, police overtime, planting of trees, health deaprtments grants. Some not large, but we never got some of them before. So until you are more accurate, stay on the tour. And yes I know you can go to every web site in the world and find milions taht other cities ahve gotten, but not Norwalk, but that is not fair, many are repeat grants or the results of entire departments applying and lobbying in WAshington. Norwalk is the embrionic stage.

If you agreed 100% you would ruin my reputation as well. :)

seriously you are right about what was sold, after all those deaths and injuries at the toll booths it was like you said the number one priority when some of the reps were pups,to keep the thruway safe.

it takes a clear memory and sound facts to either defeat or win certain issues some of the reporters were not around back then but interesting enough there are archives and well written documents from the past that would help us all now,

I know I always say the here and now but there are times when what they did years ago like all older things were made and decided better than todays items and decisions .

Thank god no emergency personel were hurt last night it could of been 10,000 gallons of gas involved in one big fireball of course we all thought about that first when we heard then news right?

"protests from the people in Greenwich because it caused so much noise and pollution in their area"

I say "SCREW EM." If it was in Norwalk the Greenwich residents would all be yelling "Keep it open 24/7 including Christmas and New Years."
Norwalk, Stamford, and Bridgeport had better start screaming louder then the Greenwich loud mouths. It is our safety that is being sacrificed.

Why not open the Truck Stop 24/7 and put in a toll gate there to boot.

If my memory serves me correctly, the Greenwich weigh station was the subject of many newspaper articles, complaints to our representatives in Hartford and general protests from the people in Greenwhich because it caused so much noise and pollution in their area. I always thought that it was only open at certain hours or certain days to appease the residents in the surrounding area.

If it is opened again for longer hours - especially at night, I am sure we will start hearing the protests again.

As I said before, it should be open 24/7, but I'm sure there will be complaints.

Mr Greenpeace, I agree with 99% of what you posted. My feeling is that it is a start in the right direction. We were sold a bill of goods to convince us to spend millions on the building of that Greenwich Truck Stop, as it was a number one priority to keep the Thruway safe, then they just let it sit idle.

I might agree with you 100% but that might ruin my reputation of being one of the "Miserable 25."
