DemWars or RepublicanWars

Ok, this post serves as nothing more to act as a placeholder for the furor and foment of political mudslinging. Or something in between. Try and be civil though, and remember that you shouldn’t say something online that you’d be afraid to say in person.

I called this category Eggs and Bacon Bits.

Yay! I heart Turfie! I don’t heart lazy, scheming politicians of any stripe!

    Bash away!

  • Al B.

Coffey and his phantom supporters are afraid to look into the mirror! This guy tried to play around with NEON funding- you see the disrespect for South Norwalk – “if they come out and vote”- are you kidding me?

  • L’arlequino

Hi, Al – Welcome to the machine, as they say. I’m no Coffey fan either. However, if you got something to back up what you’re saying, like a link to Common Council minutes, I would be interested to see more about what you’re referring to.

  • Republican Who’s Seen It

The only person to try to manipulate funding for NEON is Carvin Hilliard. He is always for sale to the highest bidder…thus his last minute waffles on the budget each year. Pay attention.

  • Al B.

You see the GOP sticking up for their biggest star- Mike Coffey!

  • Lurker

Our biggest star is to whackjobs who post here, cutting each other up and allowing our canidates to look like the better choice. Thank you for making our job easier! We supprt Al and Jen and especially Galen Wells. We couldn’t do it without you. God Bless you Democrats.

    Dear “Democrat success?”
It is sad that you see your self as such a politcal guru but have no insight into politics or political history in this town.
Keep going back to Alex so he can treat you like trash again. Ask him why he’s not taking the risk of running again. Perhaps he can hire you to do all his strategic thinking! And while you are at it, suck up to Galen Wells, she seems to buy what you are selling.

  • Democratic Political Neophyte

I started reading this web site after an article about it in the Norwalk Advocate. I find it quite interesting and wanted to share a recent experience of mine in my first post to your neat site. I am a voting and inactive democrat who received a call about ten days ago from Peter Hart Research Associates. I typically do not listen but thought it might be a fun experience. It was a poll regarding issues and candidates. The issues mentioned were taxes, education, crime, and environment. As for the candidates it mentioned Alex Knopp, Walter Briggs, Bruce Kimmel, William Krummell and Michael Coffey. Hopefully the results will be released in the newspaper. How long until the results would be released publicly ?

  • Dem in the know

Democratic political neophyte: These guys are heavy hitters. Someone apparently is pretty serious about the race. A basic google search shows that they have some pretty serious candidates and elected officials that they work for including:

    Political
    U.S. Senators
    Robert Byrd (WV)
    Bob Casey, Jr. (PA)
    Kent Conrad (ND)
    Byron Dorgan (ND)
    Richard Durbin (IL)
    Russ Feingold (WI)
    Dianne Feinstein (CA)
    Patrick Leahy (VT)
    Bernie Sanders (VT)
    Chuck Schumer (NY)

    Governors
    Rod Blagojevich (IL)
    Phil Bredesen (TN)
    Mike Easley (NC)
    Brad Henry (OK)
    Martin O’Malley (MD)

    U.S. Representatives
    Lois Capps (CA-23)
    Jim Cooper (TN-5)
    Bud Cramer (AL-5)
    John Dingell (MI-16)
    Brad Ellsworth (IN-8)
    Baron Hill (IN-9)
    Mazie Hirono (HI-2)
    Rush Holt (NJ-12)
    Mike Honda (CA-15)
    Doris Matsui (CA-5)
    David Obey (WI-7)
    Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-8)
    Earl Pomeroy (ND)
    David Price (NC-4)
    John Spratt (SC-5)
    Chris Van Hollen (MD-8)

    Political Organizations
    Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
    Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
    Democratic National Committee
    EMILY’s List
    Indiana Democratic Party

I wonder what Norwalk democratic potential candidate has retained them ? Sounds like Knopp, Coffey, Kimmell or Briggs. Probably Briggs, since he is the only one with a family fortune who could afford this level of polling unless someone got the DNC or DSCC involved.

  • Al B. Sure sounds like david watts

Al B. sure sounds like David Watts. When is David going to announce he is running for Common COuncil ? Hopefully never. Maybe he will come back as Alex Knopps campaign manager in 2009. That way Alex Knopp will stay out of office. David’s success with Alex Knopp and Carvin Hilliard ensures that anything he touched turns to dust.

Al B. sure seems to now back the party hierarchy who has privately and publicly ridiculed him for the past several years. Way to go Al B. or Jen or David or whatever you are calling yourself. Way to sell out for a nomination on a ticket that you are running on with Matt Miklave down in the district. Herb Grant will whoop you and Matt Miklave. Hands down. Good luck, you will definitely need it.

  • anonymous

It sounds like the democratic primary process will be more interesting than the general election.

  • anonymous

Who has publicly announced yet for the cemocratic mayoral nod ? H?as anyone heard who they will be running ? Will it be an octogenarian or a septagenarian ??

  • ENrwlker

Word is that Briggs is the most likely mayoral candidate for the Democrats.

  • Al B.

    # 10 Is that you DK or Mike Coffey? There you go making things up again. Wow, first your leading in the polls and pulling in a lot of cash. Then you claim your going to win your mayoral primary- now you are pushing Herbert towards destruction.

Herbert is not going to win anything- like you he will be out getting people to sign his election forms. People will ask- Former councilman Grant why did you lose your nomination?

Herbert will say ” I was looking for uncommon results ” Get a life losers!

  • anonymous

The Democratic primary will be more interesting than the general, if only because it will publicly continue a rift not based on politics but on loyalty tests. Only a paranoid, bitter, and divisive person would think this was a positive outcome.

  • anon

David Watts is the hardest working Democrat in town. He should be in a leadership position. But if he’s here, bad mouthing other Dems, then he’s adopted the low road to Alex Knopp failure. David should know better. Whisper campaigns against promising young Dems derail change. Don’t give them ammo.

  • Wise Dem

Al B……..you seem to be the first to post on so many of these threads, and your posts always echo the same verse. “Coffey is bad……….Democrats don’t support Herb Grant………….Coffey is a republicrat……….Coffey is a loser.”

Unfortunately, Democratic leadership’s handling of the council is very relevant. In fact, the Democratic majority council has done very well for all of the city of Norwalk and should be the number one story in the media daily. Yes, there’s some planning and execution of issues that have been blundered in the past. But the last fifteen plus years of politics in this town have been full of blunders, so to constantly knock your own leadership is doing the work of the opposition. To dismiss this criticism makes you only look more foolish. Negative attacks on your own party members in public turns off voters. Local politics in Norwalk have been stuck in the mud of personal vendettas for too many years. Undermining Democratic initiatives because of who supports them puts progress at risk. The observers of “politics” are so stuck in their own lives, they don’t take into consideration the possibility that both major parties are intentionally stifling debate, and leading their mass support to further personal agendas instead of what’s good for Norwalk. If anyone can take a look at what Norwalk politics have become, and argue on any concrete level that they’re actually more open or more tolerant of anything but dynastic fellowship, they’re simply not paying attention to the details.

  • Anonymous

In 2006 nobody was attacking Coffey because he wasn’t campaigning to be anything but common council president. This time he’ll have to deal with an overwhelming assault of negative comments because that’s how Knopp plays. Behind the scenes, all negative, all destructive, everybody is out to get him. Exactly the sort of campaign Knopp wages against his opponents. There are many people who don’t want Alex Knopp and his politics of personal destruction back. If you have issues with how votes are made, fine, spell it out. But to wage this campaign about who should be supported or not with no facts on the table is a turn off.

  • anonymous

Al B. is David Watts. David Watts has not done anything to show any promise in the Democratic party. David Watts has not done anything other than lose. The records speak for themselves. 2005 Mayoral race, David Watts lost as the Mayoral campaign manager while moonlighting running the summer jobs program because the Knopp campaign could not afford to pay him and instead gave him a high paying patronage job. 2006 State Representative, David Watts lost. The track record speaks for itself. Please David Watts run, the Republicans need you to run so that they can gain another seat.

  • RichT

Does anyone have any idea who is really running for Mayor for the Democrats?

  • Dave Watts

10 and #19 you are incorrect! My district (A)has not nominated anybody to date nor have I announced that I will seek a council seat. People ask me everyday to run for office and my response has not changed since I have been involved in Norwalk politics. I am currently looking into the possibility and have not moved beyond that.

I understand that Herb’s supporters are feeling that I am taking a seat away from him. Let’s respect each other and wait to a see how things turn out. At our last meeting Herb was asked by several members “are you running again” and Herb’s reply was “I do not know.” If he is running for re-election that is news to me.

As for my campaign record ,that is fair game maybe I did do something wrong and I look forward to positive feedback.

  • RINO

Must the Democrats is this town be so self centered? There’s much for me to be wary about with the Republican party. There’s too much of a good old boys handshake way of doing business for my comfort. But yegads, the sissy fights over who is siding with whom is crazy. I don’t care what you all do in private meetings. But give me a reason to vote for you, not just against the best of a series of bad choices.

  • Try positive today…

RINO is right. Move on to the issues. The R’s have not accomplished much and the D’s need to say what they would do differently. Issues, issues, issues. Stop the inside bickering and finger pointing.

  • Anonymous

People posting here seem to think these issues are going to decide the next election. Not. The majority of voters in Norwalk are not engaged in insider dialogue as evidenced here. They could care less about infighting whether on either side. Has their quality of life improved under this admin? Has this admin given them nothing to complain about? Those will be the questions on their minds.

  • anonymous

But it is valuable to know what each party is doing. Why are candidates getting pushed around by party members? Maybe its a reason why we get a lot of nothing.

  • Dem Who’s Watching

“Try and be civil though, and remember that you shouldn’t say something online that you’d be afraid to say in person.”
Turfgirl, give us a break. t
This whole site is about trash talk. If you really wanted people to be civil, you would require that we all post under our real names.

  • hitcow

The entire purpose of this blog is so tuftgirl can sling mud. Atleast that is what it appears.

I’ll sling mud. I think tuftgirl is a man in drag. Has anyone seen which bathroom she goes into? It just seems she can’t pull off the drag as well as Ann Coulter.

  • Anonymous

hitcow, thats uncalled for and you know it.

  • anonymous

Hitcow your behavior is offensive and your character nonexistent. It’s beyond belief that you get off on being so nasty.

  • turfgrrl

Dem Who’s Watching: Nothing is stopping you.

hitcow: Do you feel better now that you have decided to use this blog as your bathroom?

  • anonymous

Turffie is a class act. Whatever your problem is hitcow, you deserve to be banned. This type of posting doesn’t belong here.

  • mansionmouse

    Here’s my 2 cents worth.

It doesn’t matter Democrat or Republican by the time they get into office they are corrupted. It isn’t the peoples will it is their own. If we could get a hardworking person that still has a mortgage to pay and still worries about how the oil and electric bill is going to be paid, we my friends would have a government that rocks!

  • Al B.

Mike Coffey and Herb Grant phantom supporters- are attacking this young man and it is shameful! Herb is running around town talking about his upcoming primary – he must be afraid.

  • anonymous

Turf thanks for the blog. Ignore the attacks, they come from uneducated small minded losers.

  • hitcow

tuftgirl, I see you dish it better then take it. :)

If you were not so bloody evil, your would get it. But I’ll stick to republicans in general.

  • Anonymous

hitcow-I really don’t think after you nasty comments earlier that anyone will take you seriously from here on in. a twisted mind is not beneficial to anyone and all you are doing is adding insult to injury by making your fellow dems fight amoungst themselves.

  • anon

hitcow is nasty and incoherent. Better lay off that white stuff.

  • anonymous

hitcow is nasty and needs to be cowtipped. Keep up the great work turfgirl.

  • AnonymousDem

Turf does a fine job letting us all vent. Hitcow go out to pasture and stay there. You’re a disgrace.

  • East Norwalk Native

Hitcow if you don’t like what you read here – don’t bother. Just leave. Your comments are low, uncalled for and shamefull.

  • itsridiculous

Finally my kind of “open space”, where I can rail on the incompetence of our elected and appointed leaders. And no, just because I choose not to run for council or mayor doesn’t mean I can’t critique their accomplishments or blunders. I’m surprised it is now Friday p.m. and there have been no posts on this page all day. Hmmm. Seems we were just crying out for what we didn’t have, and just getting the post was the point. Turfie is one smart cookie. Give the kiddies all the sugar they can stand, until they are so sick of it they don’t want it. Or maybe some kind of bizarre NFL reverse psychology play. Oh well. I’m sure before long (read Nov. 7th)this post will have a thousand entries!

  • anonymous

I recently heard that someone is running for the mayor on the democratic side. Is this true, and also there is going to be a press annnouncement this weekend regarding the candidate for Mayor. Who could it be ?

  • Anonymous

Whatever the rumor is, the Democrats will be the last to know. Can you say Dysfunctional Family?

  • anonymous

The Democrats are hopeless. Where’s the desire to promote anything that Howard Dean has identified as important? No one wants to be criticized when they volunteer. I’ll be wishing I lived in Wilton.

  • Anonymous

The Democrats are not hopeless- we just need to choose our battles. This election coming up will decided- the direction of the city for years to come. After a few house keeping actions- we should have a full line up of candidates.

    Dont stop thinking about tomorrow!

  • anonymous

“A few housekeeping actions”, sounds like a purge. Oh yeah, a purge of people who do not think like the out of touch democratic leadership. What are these housekeeping action ? Hopefully getting rid of anti-democrats like Miklave and Poruban who were anti-union and anti-living wage.

  • anonymous

Direction of Norwalk’s future? How about addressing the present? All talk no action Dems. Not much better than GOPers, but they make you pay twice as much for their screw ups. Can we get a new party going?

  • itsridiculous

Bravo to the new party idea anon #47. Let’s get some discussion going on that front, seriously.

  • Anonymous

I do not think the word purge is correct- it is more like party restructure. A new party would be great for those who do like to play organzied basketball.

  • http://www.MGeake.org Another Party?

Last time I looked, there were 9 parties registered with the Secretary of State, from far left to far right. Do we really need another???
