While there’s lots going on, after an all nighter, or rather an all morninger, I don’t have much time to rant about anything in particular. That’s not to say that there aren’t some good teeth sinking issues.

Overall: Stop and Shop avoided a strike. Chris Powell writes an effective op-ed pointing out how the state legislature avoids grappling with the BIG issues and focuses on the little issues. He declares the legislature irrelevant.

For the Norwalk readrs:
Tonight, for example is the BET meeting. yesterday the Hour reported that the BOE was going to fight it. Mayor Moccia showed how you tackle an unwieldily budget by declaring a hiring freeze. And, he also doesn’t want to chip in $15k to the big city org that sued to the Governor over ECS funding.

Comment on anything.

The Chris Powell piece was interesting. Even when you aren’t posting you are giving us good stuff to think about. Thanks!

Turfy what do you make of the Jim Hines for a 4th CD run against Shays?

CLP-exer: Just took a look over at CGG’s post, here, to get a run down. In all likelihood its too early to tell. Himes has next to zero name recognition in Norwalk, and by that I mean of the non politically active leaning Democratic people. That is a surmountable problem, but one none the less.

Shays really has solidified his position with this last election in the 4th. The 4th trends conservative, to begin with, and by that I mean not just from a political philosophy but from a quality of lifestyle. Shays delivers to his constituents, he’s accessible and he’s a nice guy. Ok, he’s been prone lately to say really bizarre things, but Diane didn’t capitalize on them.

Can someone else? Maybe. But we already had our low name recognition candidate out of Greenwich in Stephanie Sanchez, and we saw how the 4th responded then. The Democrats will need someone who can unite all factions of Democrats plus appeal to Us. I don’t think Himes is it right now.

Himes will not get any traction beyond Greenwich. Heading a party committee is hardly the broad based qualification you would need to appeal to all voters. This is a non starter.
